Ron Phernetton grew up on a small farm in northwestern Wisconsin. After graduation from high school in 1956, he served in the US Navy for several years. Later, after graduation from the University of Minnesota with a degree in forest management, he worked for the US Fish & Wildlife service for many years, serving on three National Wildlife Refuges including the Okefenokee NWR. After retiring in 2000, he continues to live a few miles from the Okefenokee Swamp in South Georgia. Since retiring, he continued to serve as a volunteer and later as a contractor on Okefenokee NWR, assisting with wildlife habitat management planning and other environmental services. His contracting activities, along with growing and selling roses led to the formation of Benbranch Company, the umbrella under which his business activities are conducted. His latest venture was to write and publish a BOOK, “THE ROCK,” an adventure story about a young boy and his friend. He and his co-authors are currently working on other stories.
The author works out of his home in Charlton County, Georgia, very near Ben Branch, the little creek for which the company was named.
